I was recently watching "Sharpe's Challenge", and in the episode (just as he arrives in India), the song in the background (sung by John Tamm) goes:-

..."now I'm off to India, for seven long years,
drinking wine and strong liquire, instead of small beers,
but if ever I return again,it will be all in the spring,
and we'll go roaming through the banks of red roses".

Either this is the fusion of two songs - "the Nightingale" and "on the banks of red roses", or their is a different song that the above is part of.

Can anyone shed some light please?
