I was liking "salt sea" instead of "saucy" earlier in the thread - but it seems to have sunk without trace. "Saucy" has always seemed an inappropriate epithet to apply to the stereotypical hairy-***ed son of the sea - or for that matter to the various vessels in which he sailed. I like the idea that it is just a mis-hearing of "salt-sea". Anything more known? SJ
