... just to add my voice to above suggestion of Lonesome Death Of Hattie Carroll, to my mind Dylan's best song by a mile - brilliantly poetic: "She never once sat at the head of the table", one of most pithy epitomes of lowly respectability ever, never fails to bring tears to my eyes; irresistibly heartfelt and heartbreaking; and so effective that, when William Zanzinger died recently, all the 'quality' papers ran obits to remind of his iniquities — that's what you might really call having an influence.
