GUEST,JeremyRS Tim van Eyken/Gren Bartley 8 Dec Leics (1) Tim van Eyken/Gren Bartley 8 Dec Leics 30 Nov 09

Greenbird Promotions next gig is on Tuesday 8 December with Tim van Eyken plus support from Gren Bartley.

Tim van Eyken first came to prominence when he won the BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award in 1998. Subsequently he was a founder member of Dr. Faustus (now Faustus) with Benji Kirkpatrick and Paul Sartin (Bellowhead) before leaving to become the fourth member of folk supergroup Waterson:Carthy where he spent seven years. Towards the end of this period he released his first solo album Stiffs, Lovers, Holymen, Thieves to wide acclaim, with his version of John Barleycorn winning the award for Best Traditional Track at the 2007 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards.

In parallel with his musical activities he has pursued a career in acting and has just finished an extended run as the Songman in the National Theatre's commercial and critical success WarHorse. His time there has heavily restricted his musical appearances so this event represents a rare opportunity to catch one of British folk's major stars live.

Gren Bartley has been making a name for himself on the folk club and festival circuit for several years, both as a solo performer and in his duo with fiddler Tom Kitching. A phenomenal acoustic guitarist, capable of playing Richard Thompson's 1952 Vincent Black Lightning as well as its author, he is also a high quality writer and the likes of Favourite Red Coat and Some People Are Not Interested In Love have led to him being described as "fabulous" by John Kirkpatrick and "effortlessly astonishing" (Rock'n'Reel/R2).

Tickets are £10 and available from Wegottickets or direct from The Musician (Clyde Street, Leicester, LE1 2DE).

Doors open at 8.00pm with Gren Bartley on stage at 8.30pm.
