No one mentioned the fact that David Qualey's piece was fattened considerably with production effects-so much so that it is the "Beautiful Music" ambience, and not the music itself that stands out. Some people like that, some people need a little more substance. I'll leave it at that. As far as the piece goes, the more I think about what Tom Bliss says, the more sense it makes. Even the best versions really are just novelty pieces, because the instrument just doesn't have the capacity to render all the parts, and I find myself clutching my chair and hoping for the best in the shaky spots. If Bach had actually written something for the guitar, it would have worked a lot better. Also, and I am not naming names, but one of the performers didn't seem to be in tune--and that is rather distracting.
