"why is it so hard to find folk music within walking distance of my place-why arent folk music venues on every corner." Perhaps you are looking in the wrong places. Folk music doesn't come from a "venue", it comes from the street corners and within walking distance - you just do not recognize it. The only thing you will get in a venue is a performance. "Why dont the local children and their parents for that matter know any folk music...." They do. You are placing expecations about what it should be and not seeing the folk music they are sharing.
