Hi Patrick! I appraoch folk music by listening to Dylan too, despite the bad words he gets here sometimes. My favorite folk singers now are Dave Van Ronk (good picker, huge repertoire, good introduction to folk songs) and Mississippi John Hurt. Check out the Anthology of American Folk Music edited by Harry Smtih (Folkways) too. You may like to listen to the programm dedicated to him on BBC mentionned on another thread here.
