GNOSTIC SERENADE
(Bill Hawkins)

C               Am         Ab
And finally, we are as the times are
C          Am      F                G
We meet to part and go our separate ways
C       Em      Am            Ab
And I am trapped on this crazy star
C          Am            F      C
I've been a prisoner for all my days.

Once we were young, and we laughed a lot
Happiness wasn't peculiar like today
And I'll give you, everything you think I've got
Just to prove that it needn't remain this way.

Don't let the tears fall from your eyes
If we can't make it or find some other way
Just try to be like the stars up in the sky
And shine on nothing and wait till the end of the day.

This is my memory of a version that a friend (David Ragosin) and I used to sing in the early 1970's. We got it from the Three's a Crowd LP, I think. The chords may not be accurate, but they work. I have the album filed somewhere in my collection, so if you think some of these lyrics or chords may be incorrect, I can play it and confirm.
