OK, I think I have it figured out. I don't believe I learned the song from hearing it sung. I'm pretty sure now, that I got the song from Carl Sandberg's American Songbag book. It must have had a simple score of musical notes, and I just used a piano to one-finger out the tune. Tt's not a difficult tune, or I'd never have been able to do it that way! Sorry to have started a wild goose chase.
