My reply to your initial comments now appears after your explanation, so we must have crossed in the post!

If the update process sometimes works but has got into difficulties this time, taking it back to the original supplier to be fixed might well be a good idea and save you a lot of time (I speak from personal experience here). If other people have reported the same problem they might be able to fix it quickly for you.

It is also very frustrating to try technical type things that don't work...especially as you can't get into the computer in the first place if it is hanging up on you!
