I study children's books about China. I think this song was the inspiration for what I believe to be a spurious Chinese folktale picture book, TIKKI TIKKI TEMBO, by Arlene Mosel, published in 1989. I've certainly never read the story of the boy with the long name who fell into the well in any collection of Chinese folklore (and I've read many!) but I remember the song from my college years.
