BBC Wales did a magnificent documentary on the Tonypandy Riots, which occured on November 7, 1910 when coal owners of the Cambrian Combine staged a lockout and 12,000 miners struck. The programme showed Sophie Evans, runner-up in Over The Rainbow, singing All The Nice Girls Love A Miner, and I would dearly love to track down the words again. The lyrics went: It's handy In Tonypandy... The song the BBC didn't show was one I collected from Wyn Jones: Tonypandy, Tonypandy, Tonypandy, don't forget; Tonypandy, Tonypandy, All the Welsh remember yet. Mick Tems
