Greenbird Promotions next event in Leicester features the wonderful Coope, Boyes & Simpson, with support from the equally wonderful Lady Maisery, at The Musician on Tuesday 23 November. Coope, Boyes & Simpson really don't need a plug from me - anyone who's heard them sing knows how good they are - but I will note that their new album, As if..., has been described by fRoots as "their finest hour on disc yet and got four star reviews from Mojo and The Independent amongst others. Lady Maisery, by contract, are a new vocal trio featuring Hannah James (Kerfuffle) and Hazel Askew (The Askew Sisters). The sing songs and ballads both unaccompanied and with backing from their combined instrumental talents on accordion, harp and fiddle. They are one of the first groups to revive the tradition of diddling or singing tunes, which has nearly died out in the UK, but is still prevalent in Scandinavia and other parts of Europe. I saw them in Whitby and booked them on the sport, they really are excellent. Doors open at 8.00, music starts 8.30. Tickets are £12 from the Musician or wegottickets. http://www.greenbirdpromotions.com
