Spaw, Cloudstreet (fabulous Aussie duo) fit your bill, as they do a song called "Down in the Goldmine" on their latest album "The Circus of Desires" (there are some vidclips on The Net). It's about the miner, Modesto Varischetti,who was trapped at the flooded "Westralia" goldmine near Coolgardie, in 1907, and eventually rescued by 2 divers.
