Well, if you want digression ... A colleague of mine was examining Royal College of Music students some years ago. A Chinese classical soprano came forward for to sing her exam pieces and, as she had done one unit of work on People's Music of China, she sang a piece 'written by some Workers' Committee for ... ?' which my colleague immediately recognized as a Welsh song. Probably not a great mystery as there were some quite active Welsh missionaries in China before and during the Revolution ... I imagine there was a lot of "rebranding" of good tunes by the Workers Revolutionary Committee for Public Whatever. sian
