Anyone ever heard the corneta china, an oboe or bombarde-type instrument played in Cuba? I have only heard it once-- on a field recording of Cuban musicians leading a parade, featured on the program "Afropop" in the late 1980s, but I was absolutely riveted by the sound. Years later, when I first heard the bombarde, I was similarly delighted. I also love oboes. I guess my ears are just attuned to musical bombardement! --Cuilionn
