I have to disagree with that comment, Joe. Mickey Newbury was a genius and his songs were often quite lyrically complex. I remember a friend and I spending many hours talking about some of the meanings. Listen to songs like "Heaven Help the Child", "33rd of August", "Saint Cecilia", Dizzie Lizzie" (w. "King George the Fourth yelled someone from the crowd". and so many others.
