The Oregon Folklife Festival, which had been produced in Corvallis, died several years ago. It had suffered from a perpetual disagreement on whether it should be a venue for local unpaid musicians or a major production with professionals brought in from outside. It would go with local musicians until someone who wanted to make it big-time took over for a few years, burned out and then someone local took it back for local musicians. Unfortunately, the last time a big-time director burned out there was no one local to take it over, so it died.
