Hello Martin , I recall we were talking about this song/Shanty walking through Dublin on the Sunday morning of the Festival{Sept {Frank's festival}.We spoke of many songs ,"origins of". You gave me some interesting information that day. The "End Story" for Billy O'shea is good to reach. As the saying goes..... Every Thing Comes to he who waits.
