We have spotted a varied thrush here in Brunswick, Maine. I'm not a birdwatcher, at least in any systematic sense, but apparently this is a pretty big deal, since their normal range is from Oregon to Southeast Alaska. Every year though a few of them set out to see the world, or at least the Upper Midwest. It's still unusual to see them in Maine, and the local birders have been tromping through the neighborhood for the last couple of weeks. The bird hasn't been seen for a few days. Since the temperature outside is currently -5 F, I imagine Oregon started looking better. Mike
