I got my first 12-string in 1966 and have had a love affair with that lasted longer than the one I had with my wife! Over the years I've had a number ofthem "JG", Yamaha, Martin (D12-35 and DM-12). When I started playing the coffee house scene in the Seattle "U-district" the lead guitar would make me sit at the back of the stage so I wouldn't drown him out. Since that time I've gotten married, widowed, grandfathered, and old. Tendonitis/arthritis...it makes it difficult to play as often as would like, but the love affair continues... The point of all this is that I've found myself becoming increasingly "bluegrass" over the years and thought that the 12-string was doing a fine job on some of the ballads like "Down in the Willow Garden" so I was suprised to hear that the 12-string hasn't had a place in bluegrass. Why is that?
