There is a compilation series that I believe is called "Steel Rails"... if features various artists in folk, bluegrass etc. doing train songs... The one volume I have has:

Jimmie Rodgers "Jimmie the Kid" Johnson Mountain Boys "Orange Blossom Special" Doc Watson/David Grisman "Nine Pound Hammer" Guy Clark "Texas 1943" (Mickey Raphael on harmonica) Kate Mackenzie "PanAmerican Boogie" Roy Acuff "Wabash Cannonball"

... among others. Great sound, liner notes with all players listed, recording dates and places... check it out!
