Bluebird issued ten sides by Hartman's Heartbreakers (one of an interlocking group of bands that included the 1930s Tennessee Ramblers and the Washboard Wonders). Another ten sides were not issued, which makes me wonder whether they just didn't sell, or perhaps Victor decided to tone down its catalog a bit. Lyrics are fairly smutty for the time, with Betty Lou trying to sound like fresh hillbilly jailbait (deliberately just a tad offkey), verbally encouraged by a male band member who undoubtedly had a pencil-thin mustache and reeked of bay rum. The LP of the band is long out of print but the recordings are available in a rar archive file at the Western Swing on 78RPM blog: http://westernswing78.blogspot.com/2007/04/hartmans-heart-breakers.html It's 22 MB, so even patient dial-uppers can add this to their collections. If you love Okie Jazz, though, you'll need a faster connection because you will want everything on this site.
