Scottish and English oral versions aside, the Northumbrian chantey could easily be derived from American versions as are many other chanteys. I'm not sure if Roud numbers still put both songs together, but if that is the case I'll recommend he separates the two, unless anyone has any further proof they are linked in any other way than parody.
