There is a song called "Poor Boy," which deals with a fight between a woman's two lovers. At the end, the narrator kills his rival, but must hang. "And yet they call this 'justice' poor boy, then justice let it be. I only killed a man that was a-fixin' to kill me." I assume this is traditional. I think it has a couple different versions.
