I always thought Stuart Marson wrote this song and that he'd made it quite clear that indeed it was Ferrier, (one of my Mum's favourites) who was the subject. She was a Post Office telephonist, she got poor initial notices and her earlier hopes to be a piano teacher were sidelined once that voice made its impact - hence the front room piano keys gathering dust. I could be wrong - and should be keen to learn more! |
