GUEST,roderick warner | Two hours of Sonny Rollins (3) | RE: Two hours of Sonny Rollins | 17 Feb 12 |
I saw Sonny Rollins at the London Jazz Festival in 2007 - a frail, stooped man of 77 years who came onstage at the Barbican as if weighed down by his tenor sax. Then he proceeded to blow the hell out of the place, ending on possibly the best version of 'White Cliffs of Dover' I will ever hear. Cunning old fox - and a master musician still capable of amazing improvisations. No safety zone here. Simply awesome. |
