Cherish the Ladies does a stunning version of this (lyrics similar to the ones Jim Carroll cites). At a concert recently the singer introduced it by saying that the refrain "For Ireland I'll not tell her name" refers to the suitor--having returned to Ireland to find his love has married his brother--desiring not to cause a war over a woman.
