Don't know about open bars or in-house sessions but in a pub where you have exclusive use of the room it's up to the person in charge to set the scene. To ask for quiet when the turns on, that no one enters or leaves the room whilst some one is performing and also that the organizer does not distract by trying to atract the attention of the next performer. When you announce the next singer you should tell the person singing after them so that they can prepare. Talking when somone is singing is very rude and you should not be afraid to risk offence by telling them. You may make an enemy for life but tough. Joe Nicholson
