Geoff the Duck BS: Galloway returns. (102* d) RE: BS: Galloway returns. 31 Mar 12

I started to read the Dalrymple article but had to stop part way through as it was such reactionary and inflammatory rhetoric and in no way described my home city of Bradford.
As I recall Ray Honeyford published comments which the non-racist people of Bradford were horrified by. His description didn't in any way cover the reality of a town proud to embrace immigrants from all over the World. German Jews, Polish, Ukrainian, Czech,Estonian refugees of WWII, Irish, Jamaican, Indian and Pakistani, Students from Iran and Iraq - pretty much If you can think of it - they are in Bradford.
In the late eighties the Bradford Festival brought all communities together with city-wide entertainment and cultural events. In later years one of the highlights of the festival was the Mela, an idea subsequently copied by major cities including London and Edinburgh.
I have never seen the Bradford described by Honeyford, because it was a fantasy of people with a racist agenda, selectively ignoring anything which contradicted the position they were attempting to broadcast.
Quack!
Geoff.
