A few years ago I was involved in organising an arthritis self-management course; one technique for relieving pain and helping to sleep was a visualisation exercise 'get comfortable, breathe deeply,imagine you are on a sandy beach...'. A Jehovah's Witness phoned me after the first session to say she wouldn't be able to continue as the church elders had told her that this prevented her 'keeping God in her mind at all times' as she was required to do. I pointed out that this was but one small suggestion in a six session course and she could ignore it. But to no avail; The Elders had Spoken. Mike
