I remember my father sitting at the upright piano, with me on his lap, singing and playing this in Liverpool, England about 1947.It was in his repetoire of witty ditties that he had been playing around the clubs for years. He said he had learned it as a young man(he was born in 1905). Later, he wrote the lysics out for me and there are some differences. He sings of trying to bury the cat in an allotment and and of hitting the man between his cauliflower and radishes! It has strong elements of English music hall and since when have they used Half Crowns as money in the USA! Diz Dizley, Charles Hegarty, authors and composers no and the like...never.
