Surely any song with an absurd amount of verses would be tedious. As to shanties, it is all a matter of taste. I much prefer them to long songs recently written by very serious souls earnestly playing their guitars. But I still listen, and I still go, because I love the concept of a group of people getting together to make music and sing. We may be growing old together, but it is still fun.
