I especially look forward to hearing the Doukhobor choir. Doukhobors settled in BC about a hundred years ago and their reclusive communal way of life ensured that their folk traditions were well preserved. One of the most moving musical experiences of my life was hearing hymns sung by the Doukhobor contingent during an anti-Iraq-war rally in Nelson BC and realising that these people were not just responding to current events but were living out an ethical commitment to "peaceful life" which their ancestors had made many generations before, on the other side of the world.
