I bought a Sony DVD player (DVP-SR150 ) for 35 Euro that plays region 1, and may lock into that region after a few plays. However, I can link it up to my main DVD region 2 player, which is also a DVD recorder, and record to Region 2. Probably the cheapest option ofr your problem.
