Don't know if it is possible to get to the origins of this song, but if any of the Everly Brothers are still alive they might be able to provide some information. I think Doc Watson got his version from Merle Travis and the Everlys may have learned the song from Travis as well, though it is possible they got the song from their father and Travis might have also got the piece from Ike Everly. Or there may have been another Kentucky source for Ike Everly and Merle Travis.
