I have always thought this story ("The Deliverers of Their Country") from E. Nesbit's The Book of Dragons could be adapted into a great mummers' play. It's got St George and the Dragon in it, AND it features a journey to the "Universal Taproom," where the weather faucets that turn on rain, sunshine, fog and the like are kept. Can't get much steampunkier than that! It would take some reworking of course, but I think it could be very effective.
