"I have just found a copy of the 1972 L.P. Rattlebone and Ploughshare. A section about the Straw Bear..." I'm fairly certain that Ashley Hutching's "Rattlebone and Ploughjack" played a large part in inspiring the revival of The Whittlesea Straw Bear. It certainly influenced the Molly Dance revival, whose history is very much tied up with that of the Whittlesea Straw Bear. The "Straw Bear tune" is from that album too, played by George Green of "College Hornpipe" fame. I had the original vinyl LP and now have it on CD.
