We went to see him about a week before he headed over to the great session in the sky. Despite being bed bound and obviously very frail he was in pretty good spirits. We sang him a couple of songs which he joined in with ...... and he still had the strength to make jokes about the banjo! As JHW says above, he was invariably smiling ...... and banging away on his single (sometimes double!)stringed teachest bass. I've just noticed his "Hambleton View" CD on the desk next to me ..... he wrote and/or sang some fine songs. He also had some interesting jobs including Miner, Lighthouse Keeper and Youth Hostel manager! Wendy and I owe a lot to Harvey. He has always been very encouraging and was one of the people who was instrumental in Wendy spreading her wings and performing nationally. He'll be missed around here. Our thoughts are with Maureen and Lizzie.
