Some great descriptions of contemporary reactions to archive recordings -- the woman who heard her 16 year-old mother singing a Gaelic love song at a house ceilidh; the grandson in Shetland who heard 20 recordings of his (unknown?) grandfather playing fiddle, which he was sure his own father (also a fiddler) had never heard etc. And a real sense of the passion of all those involved (researchers, digitisers, family members) to ensure that this fabulous material should be preserved, publicised and made available freely online. This is an amazing resource of song, music, story and lore, and we must be eternally grateful that it is there for us all!
