The pundits forget about the likes of BOB Paisley- Bill Shankly- Brian Clough et al.
Ferguson was appointed for one reason only - to break the hold which Liverpool (Five european championships)had on the first division at the time. He was given the resources to do that.It took an awful long time to overtake the record set by Liverpool.
Call him great if you wish, but please remember the vast amounts of money at his disposal and his temper and feuds with players and the media.
The greatest? I dont think so. I believe that MU will now follow the path of the likes of Liverpool and struggle to keep up to the expectations of the fans. Its called rebuilding
