Gee, I'm almost speechless to see what has become of this thread.
I guess it's a personal problem of mine, but I'm not really offended by anything. I guess this kinda clouds my judgement of what is appropriate to ask for, but I'd really, truly like to know what the lyrics to Hog Eye Man are! Even if they're sexist, racist, and gross. If anyone knows them, I'd still like them. If you're comfortable sending them to me personally, that'd be fine.
I hope I don't offend people at the Hyde St. Pier. If I do, no one has ever told me so. I try to guage my audience, and if children are present after eleven I try to behave. I prefer songs that have a double entendre to songs that are blatant. I avoid songs that are sexist or racist. I think it's just a matter of personal comfort. If the performer isn't disturbed by the matieral, I don't think the audience will be either.
I didn't even know the version of Johnney Come Down to Hilo I've been singing WAS raunchy! Thanks Melani, I'll have to think about it. Or is it just that people assume any song I sing is raunchy, then don't listen to the lyrics? I think thats pretty darn funny!
I think I got most of this from Celeste, but I've picked up bits and pieces here and there:
A dollar goes from hand to hand
and my girl goes from man to man
Johnny come down to Hilo a poor old man
oh wake her, oh shake her,
oh wake that girl with the blue dress on
Johnny come down to Hilo a poor old man
Her eyes were blue her lips were red
Her hair was curly but not on her head
I tied her up in a 'tater sack,
She'll be true to me 'till I get back
She's a down home girl with a down home style (or my girl's got class my girl's got style)
for a dollar a try it's all worth while
Them Hilo girls they act so fine
they ain't got Jesus on their minds
Ok, maybe it is kinda dirty. No dirty words, nothing a child under ten would probably notice. I think. I suppose someone will tell me if I'm wrong.
