Peter Kennedy gives a cockney version in his Folks Songs of Ireland and Great Britain called He Comes Down our Alley. "The song, which now seems to be widespread in England , Scotland and Irealnd was not known by the public until recorded from Phil Hammond in Norfolk and broadcast in 1952."
