Get a laser.

Last printer I bought was a tiny HP monochrome Laserjet.
Not used much - only for travelling really, because it packs up neatly in a small box, but it's perfect - works well, fast enough, and laser toner is an order of magnitude cheaper per page than inkjet.
I'm very happy with that.

My HP Laserjet 1100 has been in regular use for about 12 years and still going fine. I can't remember when I last replaced the toner...

I'm also happy with my Konica-Minolta 5670 colour laser, but that cost a lot. It knocks out double sided colour print at a frightening rate, and toner cartridges are expensive, but they last for years and the printer is used daily. If you print enough, a colour laser probably works out cheaper than inkjet.

The only inkjet printer I use is an Epson that can print onto CDRs, which is the only thing I use it for. It is a complete pain, but fortunately I don't have to do it often.
