"I'm supposed to believe that Jesus died for us and because of that we have everlasting life"

Yeah? According to who? I know Christians (including ordained ministers) who question much of what is in the Creed and much of what is in the Bible, and give consideration to the fact that those things were written a long time ago by people who had political concerns they were addressing at the time...and cultural notions that influenced what they were writing at the time.

In my opinion, you're not necessarily supposed to believe anything in particular. Some will agree with that. Some won't. Freedom of thought scares some people...but not others.

I read the ancient theology with great interest, because I want to understand where it came from and why. I don't necessarily take it as gospel or as unquestionable authority nor do I take the Bible as unquestionable authority. I continue asking questions and searching for answers through experience.
