Yes, my experience has been that there are people singing both positive and negative songs about the past, and, indeed, about the present. I don't find it so heavily skewed towards those with rose-tinted spectacles. At Norwich Folk Festival, many years ago, I recall hearing Vin Garbutt singing "If I Had a Son" (anti-mining), and within an hour, The Oyster Band (as they were called then) performing "Coal not Dole" (pro-mining). It impressed me at the time that the folk world could encompass such different ways of looking at events without antagonism.
