GUEST,PaulS Linlithgow Oxfam Folk Night - 02/11/13 (1) Linlithgow Oxfam Folk Night - 02/11/13 11 Oct 13

Now very much an annual event in the town and further afield, Linlithgow Oxfam Group's Folk Night is back again, as part of the Celebrate Linlithgow festival.

On Saturday 2nd November, Linlithgow Academy Theatre will play host to another selection of Scotland's best performers.
Stephen Quigg has for 35 years been one of Scotland's great folk entertainers. He was a member of the McCalmans for over 10 years until the group ended with its founder's retirement, and he continued performing with fellow-McCalman Nick Keir until Nick's untimely death this year. With a huge repertoire, fine guitar skills and superb vocals, he is never to be missed.

Aileen Carr has been a long-time favourite of the Scottish folk scene; brought up in rural Perthshire, she has often said she cannot remember a time when she didn't sing. Her beautiful rich tones enhance every song she sings; she has sung very many songs, both as a solo singer and as a member of some of well-loved groups in Scotland, including Ceolbeg, and acapella group Palaver.

Ragged Glory is a band based in Edinburgh and Midlothian. Jim and May Weatherston, Charlie Milne and George Archibald met at Newtongrange Folk Club, and have been playing together for several years, with a wide range of songs, some written by band members. Among recent gigs have been the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and Linlithgow Folk Festival, and they will be performing next January at Glasgow's Royal Concert Hall in Ian McCalman's production of "Far, Far From Ypres"

As usual, the evening will be launched by Sangschule, West Lothian's own traditional song group.

Very definitely an evening not to be missed!

Tickets (£10, £8 concessions) are now on sale from the Celebrate Linlithgow box office at:
Far From the Madding Crowd, 20 High Street, Linlithgow EH49 7AE (opposite Linlithgow Station)
