Re "Fine large shrimps, winkles and watercreases"; In the east end of London when I was growing up shrimps, winkles and watercress were a regular Sunday tea-time meal. Every Sunday a street vendor would come around the streets pushing a two wheeled coster's cart loaded with shrimps, winkles and whelks. Our regular vendor was known only as "Old Dark" with his cry of "shrims and winkles-ah".

This tradition seems to have died out and only a few weeks ago the last Jellied Eel stall the famous Tubby Isaacs in Whitechapel closed down forever.
