Nigel. I'm not making any excuses for Blair, but I recall that he told Parliament that Intelligence had led him to believe there were WMDs in Iraq. Hence he could claim that he had not knowingly misled anyone. Yes, I know, the buck stops here......... But what defence could Thatcher have pulled out of the hat over the mines? "Nobody told me the real figure was 75 pits. I thought we were only going to close 20." Eh come on. Are you in charge of this country or what?
