The godfather of the San Diego Scene was unquestionably my dear friend, Sam Hinton. I gave my first concert for him in 1952 at San Diego State College. He was so knowledgeable about so many things, a renaissance man if there ever was one, biologist, oceanographer, educational administrator, calligrapher and graphic artist and one of the best folksinger and folklorists around. The San Diego folk scene has to be his legacy.
